Megan Holman, MSW, CSW-PIP, QMHP

I am passionate about getting to know you and your journey.

I have always been curious about why we do the things we do (or don’t do) as individuals, groups, and societies. In pursuit of this understanding, I graduated with my BA of psychology in 2015. I found the discipline of social work to have more actionable values (here) than those of psychology, and I completed my Master’s of Social Work in 2019. Through the support of phenomenal mentors and team experiences, I gained independent licensure to practice counseling (CSW-PIP) in 2022.

For the past decade I have partnered with individuals and families at local agencies in Rapid City (WRMH, LSS, OHC). I enjoy working with people from all walks of life in non-judgemental and open ways. One of my passionate goals is to share a kind and supportive space for you to build awareness and practice of coping strategies to make you everyday life happier, simpler, more connected, and less stressful.

All are welcome here.

My Approach

I believe that every person deserves time, space, and support to focus on the important areas of life. Whether we work together for a few sessions or longer, I am committed to listening deeply to your concerns and successes. You are the expert in the driver’s seat of your life. I can offer tools, strategies, perspective, and compassion to aid in navigating the journey.

For many years I have also practiced the self-defense martial art of Aikido. Aikido roughly translates as ‘the path to blending / synchronizing energy or intention.’ Aikido’s practice of diffusing violence with relaxed, assertive, yet compassionate energy informs my counseling work. As our paths intersect, I hope to provide support for your foundation of capability, self-love, and peace to get through whatever life throws your way.

My training

I have been formally trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Functional Family Therapy (FFT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and strategies for trauma treatment. Informally, I am also interested in somatic and narrative work. These techniques can support you in working through challenges including

  • emotional rollercoasters and racing thoughts

  • balancing responsibilities to yourself and others

  • building and sustaining healthy relationships

  • feeling ‘checked out’ or like things aren’t real

  • reducing dependence on alcohol or other substances

  • feeling connected and at home in your body

  • letting go of overly critical self-talk

  • processing past or present difficult or traumatic experiences

I enjoy working with you as a whole person. Although we might start our work in one area, we can tend to whatever concerns are most important for you to address.

My space

At this time I am only offering individual sessions via telehealth for current South Dakota residents. I plan to expand to a physical location within Rapid City and incorporate group sessions in the coming months. Stay tuned!
